business wine gift If you are part of the corporate scene, you are probably very familiar with receiving fruit baskets or flowers as gifts from various business partners and associates.   But when was the last time that you received a business wine gift?  If you have, the business associate that sent you the gift is part of a rapidly growing trend of sending wine as a means of congratulations or gratitude.

Does Wine and Work Mix?

In the European business community it is quite normal to receive or send a corporate wine gift to associates, special customers, and large vendors.  However, in the American business scene, it has been almost a taboo to send any kind of alcoholic beverage as a gift.  This stems back to the belief that people should not mix work and alcohol during the work day.  Of course, evening or business dinners were the exception.

Europeans are much more open to consuming wine during the business day, especially at lunch.  This practice is openly accepted and results primarily from cultural differences.  Well, American business is starting to embrace this practice as business relationships are becoming more personal and longer-term.   You can now find a vast array of business wine gifts at your favorite merchants.

In addition, the cosmopolitan or city view of business is beginning to spread to smaller towns and cities, and surely, these traditional ‘no-alcohol’ views are loosening as city values spread.  Of course, it would still be inappropriate to send a bottle of whiskey to a business partner, but a bottle of wine as a business gift is becoming the ‘chic’ way to enhance business relations.

When Should a Corporate Wine Gift be Sent?

When an important deal between two business entities is signed, it implies that a spirit of cooperation between the partners will be expected over the long term.  In that case, a bottle of champagne might be sent as a celebratory gesture; what might follow is an invitation to come share the champagne together. As such, it’s no surprise that wine gifts in business can strengthen and solidify budding business relationships.

A business has many opportunities to send business gifts over the course of the year.  Examples are:

A wine doesn’t need to be restricted to a wine gift basket, but can take the form of a bottle of wine in a gift box, a gift wine collection, a wine of the month gift membership, or even a personalized wine gift with a special message on the bottle’s label or sleeve.   It is the personal touches to your gift that make them the most memorable.

The business wine gift is a new “chic” trend in American business gift giving. If you don’t believe us, try it out and see what the reaction is.  Our guess is that you will “surprise and delight” your lucky business partner!
