Wine has been a popular drink for many centuries today and you may not realise just how many different types of wine glasses there are around. There are three major types of wine glasses which include: red wineglasses, white wine glasses and champagne flutes.

The purpose of creating different styles of wine glasses is to engage the drinker more in the experience of a particular wine by emphasising its unique traits such as aroma and taste. Most of the time you will find that a red wine glass is larger than standard wine glasses. The purpose of this larger shape is to allow the wine to be more incontact with the surrounding air and intensify the aroma from the wine. The reason the glasses are created with a large opening is so that the wine consumer can get thier nose into the glass and therefore better enjoy the aromas of the wine.

You will not find this same consistency with white wine glasses, which come in all shapes and sizes. Although they are not as large as red wine glasses and usually are slimmer in appearance.

Champagne flutes have a design that is slim and optimised to maintain the bubbles of this particular beverage. The purpose of a narrower wine glass is so that you must tilt your head back in order to enjoy the wine.

There are also glasses that are made for other alcoholic beverages as well. Custom glasses are also made in other popular forms such as sherry glasses and brandy glasses.

If you want to see as many of the available wine glasses as possible then it will be worth your while taking a look online. By all means have a look in your high street shops as well but I find that a far more fruitful way to research the wine glasses that you want is to find a set you like online and then locate them in a store and have a closer look. Some things you may want to consider whilst looking for your wine glasses are the cost, the number of glasses you will require, the style of glass you would like and how durable you wine glasses will be.
